An inmate attempting to slip away from authorities by hitching a train was quickly apprehended at Union Station Tuesday afternoon.

Kenneth W. Herrington was being escorted from the county detention facility to a hearing at the Lauderdale County courthouse when he bolted and ran.

Herrington was apprehended in a box car moments after fleeing.

"With the assistance of the Meridian Police Department, the Mississippi Department of Corrections Probation Parole Officers and other law enforcement agencies the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department was able to take this individual back into custody within a few minutes of his escape," said Sheriff Billy Sollie.
