State Sen. Videt Carmichael of Meridian is in critical but stable condition Wednesday at a Jackson hospital.
Carmichael was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center Monday after collapsing in his apartment there and striking his head on concrete.
His son told Newscenter 11 that the senator is currently in the Intensive Care Unit. A neuro-surgical team continues to monitor him. Internal bleeding has subsided but Carmichael was placed on a ventilator.
Fredie Carmichael says an operation stopped his father's bleeding ulcer but doctors are monitoring swelling in the senator's brain from the fall.
Carmichael has served Senate District 33 for the past 14 years.
