A new national study shows that Alabama's attorney general is the second highest paid state attorney general in the country.
California Attorney General Jerry Brown is tops at more than $184,000 annually. Then comes Troy King at nearly $164,000 annually. New York's attorney general his third at $155,500.
King says he had nothing with putting Alabama in the second spot. He says the Legislature tied the attorney general's pay to the state Supreme Court's pay in 1969. Then the Legislature raised the Supreme Court's pay to among the highest in the country in 1999. King says both of those acts occurred before he was appointed in 2004.
