Wayne County investigators say a 14-year-old, whose name has not been released, is charged with a shooting that happened July 15 in the Eucutta community, just west of Waynesboro.

According to investigators, it occurred when a contract worker, who was spraying to kill grass and weeds near a work site, was shot at several times.

"It was just one shot to start with, and then when he was running across the location he was fired at several more times going to his truck to get some protection from the truck," said Sheriff John S. Farrior. "No one was hurt, thankfully. He did get in the truck and he left the location immediately."

Investigators say the suspect did not know the worker. But Sheriff Farrior says they have evidence that the intent was indeed to kill and rob the worker.

Bond on the teenager was set at $50,000. His case is expected to go before a grand jury in January 2009.
