Police say the most prevalent crime in Meridian is burglary. However, they say those burglaries can be attributed to drugs use.
Meridian Chief of Police Benny DuBose and newly appointed Assistant Chief Tommy Miller sat down with Newscenter 11 this week and discussed the problem. They say the changing face of drug use is something that law enforcement is constantly battling.
"They term it as the 'war on drugs,' but I think you fight the battles one at a time because each time you think you get a handle on one type of drug, it seems like something else pops up," said Miller.
Police say preventing drug use while children are young is the best way to curb the problem, but law enforcement and educators can only do so much. They say the solution starts at home.
