Tropical Depression Five has been upgraded to Tropical Storm Edouard.
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect from the Mouth of the Mississippi River westward along the Louisiana coast to Intracoastal City.
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect from Intracoastal City, Louisiana westward to Port O'Connor, Texas
A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected within the warning in the next 24 hours.
A Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch within 36-48 hours.
Satellite data indicates that the disturbance continues to become better organized Sunday afternoon, and Hurricane Hunters investigating the system determined that it was well-enough organized to be classified as a tropical depression.
The Hurricane Hunters report that maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph. The center of the system is at 28.1 North, 88.0 West. Edouard is moving toward the west at 6 mph. Minimum central pressure measured by the Hurricane Hunters is 1002 millibars.
Edouard continues to become better organized, and will likely continued on an intensification trend tonight and throughout the day tomorrow.
A large area of high pressure is centered north of the tropical depression. With east to west winds blowing across the northern Gulf, the tropical depression should continue on a track toward the west.
Locally, an increase in moisture may mean some afternoon thunderstorms, but any direct impacts on East Mississippi and West Alabama will likely be minimal from Tropical Storm Edouard.
