Police provided a bit of an update Wednesday on a pair of drive-by shootings that happened recently in Meridian, one in downtown Meridian and another outside a home.

Police Chief Benny Dubose said the department has definitively connected those two shootings. In each, a male teenager was shot. The shots came from a white Ford Explorer.

"We have several subjects we need to question. We've not charged anyone yet," said Dubose. "We're still gathering information. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt."

In both of those drive-by shootings, the victim was shot in the leg.

The only way MPD will solve this crime is if someone takes them by the hand and leads them to the criminals or they walk into the dept and beg to be arrested. Even then the criminals may find themselves in a room alone. I fear for my family to be out after dark and early mornings while they are gathered at a local convience store on 5th st having breakfast. Something needs to and must be done to make our city safe to law abiding citizens. We need real policemen, not trafic citation writers. I know of no other place I have lived where it is so easy to commit a crime and get away clean. Is the job to much for Benny to handle?

How can I believe what the Mayor is saying about the "low" crime rate when all of the crime in Meridian and Lauderdale County in the past wasn't being reported? Today I don't know if everything is being reported to the media or not? Even with everything reported, with the drive by's and murders, Meridian sounds like Jackson! I think there is way too much crime in the Meridian area no matter what the Mayor says or the media(WTOK & The Meridian Star) report!!!
