A nursing instructor at Meridian Community College is preparing for a another care-giving assignment.

Eleanor Jane Brand was surprised by her colleagues with a send-off Wednesday afternoon.

Brand, who is also a commander in the Navy reserve, has been called to active duty. She'll be stationed at a military hospital in Germany.

"I can tell you that I work with a wonderful group of people," said Brand. "Had it not been for their support and their help, I would not be able to serve my country as well."

Brand said she'll be caring for soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Her call-up will last about a year.

I would like to take this opportunity to say I will miss you very much. You are a very special person , mother and grandmother to my best friend and her children. You have been a strong influence in my career choice to be a nurse. I hope to make you proud and will hope to see you back in time for me to graduate.Susan Alexander

I just want to take this time to thank you for your service to our country and most of all the job you do as a educator. The one area I see that you have done amazingly well in is being the mother to my dear friend, Angela, she is an awesome person. I hope to get to meet you someday. Thanks again and my prayers will be with you and your family during your time of service. Melissa

I am 100% sure that she will be missed around the nursing building at MCC. But those that she will have contact with will be blessed. I love You Mrs. Brand and may God Bless You, and thank you again for all the love, care, and support you gave to me while in nursing school.
