A debate between U.S. Senate candidates, Ronnie Musgrove and Roger Wicker, will be telecast on WTOK-TV and statewide Oct. 3, from 7 p.m. to
8 p.m.

Sen. Wicker, a Republican, was appointed to fill the seat of Trent Lott, who retired in 2007, until a special election could be held Nov. 4. He's being challenged by Musgrove, the Democratic nominee and a former Mississippi governor.

The winner of the special election will fill the remaining four years of the term.

The Musgrove/Wicker debate will originate from the Mississippi College School of Law in Jackson. The format will be patterned on the Presidential debate format. It will feature panelists from television stations across the state and will be moderated by WLBT’s Maggie Wade Dixon.

In addition to WTOK-TV, the debate will also be aired by WLBT Jackson, WTVA Tupelo, WABG Greenville, WDAM Hattiesburg, WLOX Biloxi, and WMC Memphis.

This is the first debate in Mississippi history to be televised live in every television market in the state. It's the only scheduled debate in this Senate race.
