Lott: Hussein Must Go

In a statewide news conference with television reporters, Mississippi Sen. Trent Lott was asked what he thinks should happen to Saddam Hussein, if he is captured.

Lott said the dictator's death in war would solve the problem.

"I think a man like him with all he's done to his own people, the viciousness of his regime, I hope he's taken out. But we'll deal with that when we get there. The main thing is to get in there, get his people out of power and try to get that country back where the people of Iraq can control the destiny," said Lott.

But if Hussein survives the war, Lott said he should be charged with war crimes and face an international tribunal.
