The Mississippi House Thursday delayed an attempt to override the governor's veto of a key budget bill.

House Speaker Tim Ford said there's still some uncertainty about whether he has the votes to override.

The governor's staff has also been lobbying lawmakers for the votes. Ford said a vote will come Friday. The speaker said the vote is a toss-up. It takes a two-thirds vote in the House and Senate to override a veto.

Gov. Ronnie Musgrove vetoed a bill that wiped out budget reserves to pay for various programs, including education.

The 2003 session is scheduled to end Sunday. Musgrove said late Thursday he hoped lawmakers would get the budget matter settled before the session ends.
