The Meridian City Council has approved an agreement that affects cities and counties that help each other in times of natural disasters.
According to Fire Chief Bunky Partridge, the State Mutual Aid Compact will allow for the recovery of funds, when crews and equipment are sent elsewhere to assist recovery efforts.
"With the signing of the SMAC now we will have a Regional Response Team which is a 10 county area made up of a 52 member team that we will be training in WMD, which is weapons of mass destruction," said Partridge. "This team will be made up of all emergency agencies throughout the two county area."
Partridge said over $252,000 is being funneled to the effort from the federal government.
