"Operation Livesaver,” a public awareness campaign of the Mississippi Department of Transportation, along with Kansas City Southern Railroad, promoted rail-crossing safety in Meridian Wednesday.
Officials handed out flyers along 65th Avenue at North Frontage Road, to show motorists how dangerous a collision with a train can be.
The Director of "Operation Lifesaver,” Donna Prince, said auto accidents with trains are much more deadly than with other vehicles, and the way to avoid a crash is just to simply pay attention.
"We just want people to be aware that this is not a time to be complacent at the railroad tracks," said Donna.
Trains can also be a hazard for pedestrians. Officials ask that you stay off and stay away to stay alive.
