Staff Sgt. Josh Scoggin, a Meridian Air National Guardsman, received a scholarship to the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School Tuesday.
It's part of the academy's five-year program to give students a well-rounded education and military experience.
Scoggin is one of the first air national guard members in the state of Mississippi to earn this honor.
"It's a great feeling to know that I got in," said Scoggin. "It's a long road ahead and a long way to go. I can't describe the feeling, I guess, is the best way to put it."
Scoggin has several immediate family members serving in the military right now, including a younger brother already at the air force academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
