Rush Health Systems observed the occasion of National Hospital Week Tuesday by having administrators prepare pancakes for the employees.
Rush vice-president Donnie Smith said hospitals and their workforce provide a vital service to the community.
"Our role is to provide top quality healthcare to the community and the surrounding area," said Donnie Smith, Vice-President for Human Resources and Public Relations. "And I think it just emphasizes the importance of that. And also to our employees, it helps to recognize the importance of working in healthcare."
Mayor John Robert smith issued a proclamation for hospital week Tuesday morning.
Other events are planned for the week, including "break with a boss" and hospital trivia day.
According to Smith, Rush Foundation Hospital is 88 years old this year.
