The federal court system's electronic case filing system is moving to Mississippi state courts.
Mississippi is the first state to get the PACER management system for its circuit and chancery courts, with Madison County as the test site.
Madison County Chancery Clerk Arthur Johnston says that court was chosen as a starting point because chancery documents are different from anything filed in federal court.
He and Rankin County Court Judge Kent McDaniel say electronic filing makes preparing court records for appeal much faster.
They say that instead of having clerks go through files and then photocopy documents, all the copying is done with a few clicks of a computer mouse.
