Mississippi's new school accountability plan, school performance, and parental involvement were discussed Tuesday by the local chapter of Parents for Public Schools.
Dr. Susan Rucker of the Mississippi Department of Education was invited to speak to the group. She said, in order to have successful schools, there must be community and parental involvement.
"The most important aspect is to communicate so that the parents understand what we expect of children," said Rucker. "Communities can understand the new ratings and be involved in schools because it is a community effort to be involved in schools."
Parents for Public Schools of Meridian meets the fourth Monday of each month at 5:00 p.m. at Union Station.
