More than $15.8 million in federal and state disaster aid has been approved for Mississippi residents affected by severe weather in April.
The federal and Mississippi emergency management agencies said 5,406 residents had applied for various forms of disaster assistance.
The severe storms, tornadoes and flooding during the April 6 through April 25 period resulted in one death, dozens of injuries and damage to hundreds of homes and businesses.
Officials say $8.4 million had been approved for individual assistance and $2.8 million for public assistance.
The Small Business Administration has provided $4.5 in disaster loans.
