Gov. Ronnie Musgrove Monday promoted Margaret Hill to director of the state Department of Finance and Administration. She had been DFA's deputy director since July 2000.
Hill replaces Gary Anderson, who left to spend more time running for state treasurer.
DFA supervises most state buildings. It also oversees state budgets after lawmakers have approved the spending plans. The director serves on several committees, including a five-person group that tells lawmakers how much money might be available to spend each fiscal year.
Hill becomes the first woman to lead DFA. She was assistant director for the Governor's Office of Federal-State programs from 1980 to 1988, serving under Democrat Governors William Winter and Bill Allain.
