A California man has pleaded guilty to threatening to send anthrax to a SkyTel Corporation call center in Jackson.

Authorities say Larken B. Phillips of Altadena, California, threatened to mail anthrax during two phone conversations to SkyTel on October 29, 2001.

The calls arose from a dispute involving Phillips' relationship as a SkyTel customer, according to the criminal complaint.

Phillips was arrested on Feb. 7 in California and faces up to five years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release.

Phillips is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 15. Jackson-based SkyTel Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of MCI, a telecommunications company.
