The threat for severe weather is increasing this morning. The National Weather Service says a tornado watch is likely to be issued later this morning for a large portion of central, eastern, and southeastern Mississippi.

The threat will start with the possibility for tornadoes this morning and will transition to a threat for damaging winds this afternoon. By later this afternoon, the severe weather threat will transition to a heavy rain and flood threat. Flash Flood Watches are in effect for much of the viewing area.

In Mississippi the Flash Flood Watch includes the following counties: Jasper, Kemper, Lauderdale, Leake, Neshoba, Newton, Noxubee, Scott, Smith, and Winston until 6 PM. In Alabama the Flash Flood Watch includes the following counties: Choctaw, Clarke, and Washington until 12 PM.
