Over the summer, the city of Philadelphia saw a jump in the number of crimes being committed by juveniles.

For that reason, the police chief has asked the mayor and Board of Aldermen to consider instituting a curfew for teenagers.

Chief Richard Sistrunk said more than 20 teens have been arrested this year for crimes including burglary and malicious mischief.

"With school now being back in [session], they haven't been in long enough to see if our crime rates have gone down or if they are still on an increase. It's too early to tell," said Sistrunk.

Sistrunk said the city will continue to monitor the crime rates. If they are on the decline, he said there would not necessarily be a need for the curfew.Click here to view this story
