Lauderdale County's supervisors heard a presentation at a work session that would eliminate the auction method of selling used and unneeded equipment.
Instead, items would be put up for sale on the internet.
Robert Bowen's firm specializes in this method, which is similar to
E-bay. He made a presentation to the board Thursday.
"So state and local governments are our clients. The buyers can be anyone. We have buyers in all 50 states and 19 foreign countries as we speak. We are, as they say in the internet medium, we are pure play. We are specialists, if you will, in government," Bowen said.
The county would accept or reject all bids, collect the money and pay Bowen's company 7.5% commission. Supervisors said they will study the idea.
