The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department is looking into illegal dumping in the Kewanee area.
A washer and dryer were dumped near a gravesite in the Kewanee cemetery.
Officials say the problem has been going on for some time.
"We're just having some people dumping excess garbage out here," said Kewanee resident, Gary Pickett. "They've been doing this for two or three years now. It's real bad. Tires, beer cans, just everything out here at this cemetery."
"It's absolutely appalling that someone would leave a washer and dryer in front of another person's grave," said Maj. Ward Calhoun.
Fines for illegal dumping can be up to $25,000.
