Some call it the greatest battle that America ever won, the Battle of the Bulge.
World war two veteran, John Thrash, brought his story to Meridian's Rotary Club Monday.
Thrash fought in the 1944 battle, known as the key to the nation's ultimate victory.
Thrash said it's important to remember what happened.
"I think people should realize that freedom costs," said Thrash. "A lot of people are missing their brothers and children that were killed there and other people don't seem to care about it."
More than 20,000 Americans lost their lives in the Battle of the Bulge. Many others suffered injuries.
