Updated: Mon 11:07 AM, Jul 01, 2002

It was oh, so close, Friday night for Mississippi's Junior Miss. Forrest County's Natalie Pope was named first alternate at the America's Junior Miss Program held in Mobile this weekend.

Pope was awarded a $25,000 scholarship for placing second.

Oregon's Junior Miss Amy Kerr was named America's Junior Miss for 2002. She was awarded a $50,000 scholarship.

Pope was named Mississippi's Junior Miss last year during the annual state program held at the Temple Theater in Meridian.
