A freak incident this morning caused a momentary interruption of electric service to a large portion of Meridian.
The blackout shut off power briefly to about 4500 Mississippi Power Company customers, shortly after 8:00 a.m.
A spokesman for Mississippi Power said a bird flew into a transformer at a substation, shorting it out.
Everything was back to normal within five seconds.
