Ground was broken Wednesday on the construction of water service to the Meridian I-20/59 Industrial Park.
The town of Marion and the Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors are partnering for the project.
"It will be used as a second source for the new industrial park in case of an emergency, and in case someone wants to put a business over there," said Mayor Malcolm Threatt of Marion.
Funding for the water line was made available through the Mississippi Small Municipalities and Limited Population Counties Grant Program. It finances projects that promote economic growth.
