Grassroots 'Tea Party' in Meridian
Meridian, Miss. Hundreds of "tea parties" took place across the country Wednesday. People not happy with the spending in Washington protested in the style of The Boston Tea Party. Posted: 6:18 PM Apr 15, 2009Reporter: Tametria Conner Email Address: tametria.conner@wtok.com |

I noticed a certain group of people not present at the "party". That group of uninformed voters, who think they will get a free ride with the present administration. It was openly advertised around town that a teaparty was being held in Jackson, but I didn't see WTOK mention this either. We know the reason why. What they fail to understand is these protest are for better taxation for all Americans, not any particular group. I hope those who don't support will not be complaining as things get worst. You have your chance to make a difference.
To answer a couple of questions about our coverage: Will - We didn't report anything in advance, because we didn't know about it in advance. We found out about it that morning, and quickly made it a priority to cover. Donna - The video player for the story is working. I don't know why you would have a problem with it. It is on the second page on our video player as of 10:00 this morning. Thanks for watching, and for your interest!
the liberal media didn't want anyone to kno about it. however fox news is where i learned about it. i couldn't make the party so i hung a tea bag from my rear-view mirror as support of the effort.
THE REASON THE MEDIA DIDENT SAY ENEYTHING IS BECAUSE THEY WERE BEHIND THIS TAX AND SPEND PARTY.
I think as norm you have your video for sports working but the tea party like many other newspapers you made the choice to have it not working..What does that say about your views?
The media didn't "keep it a secret", Will. This idea was driven primarily through blogging and 'word of mouth' on the internet. The tea party people didn't go to or through the media. I think the grassroots part was great but I think they could have also used the media, too. It would have reached more people. There actually ended up being 11 or 12 scheduled in Mississippi, according to http://taxdayteaparty.com/teaparty/mississippi/ I just discovered that myself this morning.
Why was the Meridian Tea Party kept a secret? I wanted to go but didn't want to drive to Hattiesburg or Jackson. I searched the net and found that only four towns in Mississippi were having the party. The media needs to let people know the time and place!
