Police responded to an emergency call at a Meridian residence at 9:20 p.m. Sunday.
Upon arriving at 1510 35th Avenue, officials say they found Marlon Maurice Davis, 45, injured on the sidewalk in front of his apartment. He was later pronounced dead at Rush Hospital.
At the site where witnesses say the incident happened, blood remained on the sidewalk Monday. But investigators said no guns or knives were found near the scene.
Police are not releasing the cause of death until an autopsy is complete.
Meanwhile, investigators say they are still probing the motive.
"We're thinking it started from an argument between a boyfriend and girlfriend and some other people got involved," Theall said. "We're looking at possibly three people involved."
Theall said police are still looking to question the suspects. Several arrests are possible.
Meridian recorded three homicides in 2002. This makes the sixth so far in the city for 2003.
