A shooting Tuesday night in Kemper County has turned into a homicide case.

The Kemper County Sheriff's Department says 52-year-old Earnest Johnson was found shot multiple times at his residence Tuesday evening, and his wife Minnie Johnson, called 911 and said she was the one who shot him.

"He was pronounced dead on arrival at Noxubee Hospital," said investigator Jeff Jowers.

The shooting happened around 6 p.m. at a house in the 700 block of Fannie Jack Road off of Highway 39 in Kemper County.

Investigators say it was a domestic disturbance that escalated. Johnson's wife has been arrested, and investigators say a murder charge is pending.

Officials say Fannie Jack Road is a family community and Mr. Johnson's sister actually lives in a trailer nearby. So residents and officials were shocked when these events took place.

Officials say this is the first homicide in Kemper County since Sheriff James Moore took office in January 2008.

"A weapon was recovered and we are investigating to see if it was the weapon used during this shooting," Jowers said. "Again that's pending crime lab results."

Investigators are awaiting autopsy results. Minnie Johnson is being held at the Kemper County Jail. A formal charge will likely be filed Thursday.

Its hard to see a good person, strong man, and family member get killed over something stupid. Minnie should have a death sentence b/c she should have been a woman and just talked it out with him. Till dis very day, it hurts me to think about a wonderful man to lost his life by his own wife. If she really loved him that much, she should have just forgot about the rumors and lies and tired her best to make it a happy home for her kids and grandkids who will not be able to see there grandfather again. Earnis Johnson was the greatest man i ever knew. Now that hes gone he will never be forgot. If I could have told him one thing before his death, I would have told him that he was the best person i ever knew and that I am with him at all times. R.I.P. EARNIS JOHNSON JR.
