A ten-year-old child apparently escaped serious injury in a one-vehicle crash early Tuesday afternoon on Highway 19 in Collinsville.
A highway patrol spokesman said tread came off a tire and caused the south-bound driver, dawn minus of Collinsville, to lose control of her SUV.
"Especially in a crash like this one, there's the possibility that the passenger or the driver could be ejected if they're not belted," said Sgt. Ronnie Carter of the Mississippi Highway Patrol. "So it's always a good idea to have your seatbelt on, for the unexpected."
Even though the vehicle slid off the road and flipped, officials say the child escaped with lacerations to the head. Both mother and son were alert at the scene.
