A 20-year-old man who was shot Wednesday afternoon outside the football stadium at Vicksburg High School has died. He was taken to River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Authorities say police arrested a 20-year-old student following the shooting, which occurred around 2:30 p.m. It was unclear whether students were in the area at the time.
District Attorney Gil Martin says the altercation was apparently something personal between the two men. He said the situation wasn't like the ones at Columbine High School or Pearl High School where students went on a shooting rampage that killed several of their classmates.
Martin said the victim was not a student at the school, but would not comment on whether a weapon was recovered.
Vicksburg Police Department spokesman DaVon Grey said the motive in the shooting is under investigation and agreed that there were no indications that others were involved.
