At a news conference today in Jackson, State Treasurer Peyton Prospere kicked off open enrollment for the Mississippi Prepaid Affordable College Program and the Mississippi Affordable College Savings Program. Enrollment ends November 30.
MPACT allows people to pay for college tuition in advance and lock in tuition rates at the time they pay. MACS doesn't lock in tuition, but it is a savings plan that offers tax incentives for parents who want to put away for books, room and board and other college costs.
The programs' director, Barry Simmons, says MPACT has more than $17,500 open accounts. MACS has $3,266.
