The state's total confirmed cases this year is now 51.

The two other new cases involved residents in Harrison and Jones counties. It is the 11th case reported in Harrison County this year and the fourth from Jones County.

One person in Lauderdale County died earlier this year after contracting the virus, but the virus is less prevalent and less deadly than last year.

State epidemiologist Sally Slavinski says there were 139 confirmed human cases of West Nile and four deaths by this time last year.

Last year in Mississippi, there were 193 cases of West Nile and 12 deaths, one of the largest outbreaks of West Nile ever documented.
