Flanked on all sides by some of Meridian's top health care officials Wednesday, Cong. Chip Pickering promoted the prescription drug plan passed last Thursday by the U.S. House of Representatives.
The plan would provide low-income seniors with drugs for two to five dollars. It would also help seniors with higher incomes by providing an insurance plan with a $33 a month premium and a $250 a year premium.
Pickering calls the plan good for all seniors. His opponent does not agree. Democratic Cong. Ronnie Shows, who is running against Pickering in this year's race, says the plan does not go far enough in providing low cost drugs for all seniors.
The bill now goes to the Senate, where the Democratic leadership there does not appear likely to pass the House version.
