Police Wednesday announced the discovery of the body of a three-year-old child in a wooded area near the Jackson Greyhound bus station.
The child, Reina Russell, has been the subject of a search since her disappearance was reported to authorities in New York and Mississippi in August.
Her mother allegedly strangled the child and left her body in Jackson. Hinds County Sheriff Malcolm McMillin says he will pursue the extradition of the mother, Tina Funderburk, and prosecute her for murder.
Initially, it was believed that Funderburk left the child in a wooded area of Meridian.
