Sunday night with the Christmas Season upon us thousands of people worldwide joined forces to offer support for families that have dealt with the death of a child. One of those ceremonies was held in Meridian.

The Compassionate Friends have one goal. To help families deal with the grief brought on by the death of a child. One way they help is through the Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting. Every year, on the second Sunday in December, candles are lit all across the globe at 7 pm local time to honor children that have been lost.

Linda Hollis' daughter Sarah passed away 13 years ago in a car accident. She says the holidays are especially difficult on families that have lost children. That's why the month of December was chosen for this ceremony.

Hollis says knowing that other families are going through the same situations makes coping a little easier.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Worldwide Candle Lighting and the 4th in Meridian.
