The start of school is still more than a month away, but there is already a need for school supplies.
Officials with Wesley House Community Center in Meridian say they have received a number of calls about supplies. The problem is they don't have enough. With this in mind, center officials are asking the public for donations.
"Many people cannot afford to buy school supplies," said Nell Grissom, executive director of Wesley House. "In fact, they say that's why some kids stay out of school, because they don't have school supplies and I don't want any child to ever miss out on an education because of a lack of anything."
Grissom said notebooks, pens and pencils are always in big demand. If you would like to donate, call Wesley House at 485-4736.
