On the day before the district 82 run off election, Republican candidate Bill Marcy and Democratic candidate Wilbert Jones are out and about continuing to put their names out and making sure their supporters get to the polls on Tuesday.
"The question is which one of us will get the most supporters out to the polling places, "House District 82 Republican Candidate Bill Marcy said.
It was a day of footwork for Marcy as he went door to door canvassing...not residences, but downtown businesses.
From the Liberty Shop to UBS bank, Marcy greeted people and handed out cards.
And taking a lunch break from his normal work day at Greater Meridian Health Clinic, Jones mingled and greeted folks at Binke's restaurant.
Jones says he's very community oriented and plans to continue his down home lifestyle when elected.
"I've enjoyed coming down to one of my favorite restaurants and fellowship with the people in the community. And you know this is what I do," House District 82 Democratic Candidate Wilbert Jones said.
Both Marcy and Jones say several college students from Jackson State University are assisting them with their campaigns and have been canvassing around the city.
Jones says many local youth have been instrumental in helping with his campaign..and he hopes those youth will carry that same energy and interest into the polls.
"Let's get out and show the rest of the state that we can vote and we are serious about the community," Jones said.
After Tuesday, one of these candidates will be the House District 82 Representative and both say it has been a meaningful journey.
"I've enjoyed this campaign. I enjoyed the run and meeting the people. It's been a great experience," Jones said.
"We're looking forward to this election and we're going to win," Marcy said.
That special election is Tuesday, June 30th. Jones will host a watch party Tuesday night at the Quality Inn. Marcy will also host a watch party at the Northeast Conference Center.
