Two mothers were arrested Monday after they allegedly went to a nightclub and left their children alone in a wood-frame house that was ravaged by a deadly fire.
Neighbors managed to rescue one nine-year-old boy from the blaze but five children, ages one-and-a-half to ten died.
The mothers, who are sisters, Clara Bell, 27, and Eugenia Bell, 18, are each charged with five counts of negligent manslaughter and one count of felony child neglect.
The Bell sisters were each jailed on a $250,000 bond.
Yazoo City Police Chief Mike Wallace said the investigation is continuing, but for now all signs point to the mothers being at a local nightclub when the fire started.
District Attorney James Powell, III, declined to comment on details of the case, but said at this point the charges are appropriate.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
