FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) -- Officials at the Alabama Forestry Commission say the rainfall deficit and a holiday weekend with fireworks and cookouts could become a recipe for danger.
It's been more than two weeks since rain fell in many north Alabama communities.
John Everett, the Colbert County manager for the commission, said there's already been a field fire in the city limits of Muscle Shoals that burned seven acres before firefighters got it under control.
Less than one-fourth inch of rain has been recorded at the Northwest Alabama Regional Airport in Muscle Shoals since June 15.
Kurt Weber, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Huntsville, said scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible Saturday with a better chance of rain Sunday.
