Mississippi State University has ordered the Sigma Alpha Epilson fraternity to get off campus. University officials attributed the decision to two unrelated alcohol poisoning incidents.

SAE, which opened a chapter at State in 1887 and has a membership of 100, will give up all campus privileges on Oct. 20 and shut down its house on Fraternity Row.

MSU Dean of Students Mike White said on separate occasions, two students partying at the SAE house consumed excessive amounts of alcohol and had to be hospitalized.

The fraternity singed an agreement with the Division of Student Affairs to voluntarily transfer its national charter to an alumni commission this week.

White says the chapter may reapply for reinstatement as a registered student organization after May 31, 2004.
