West End Elementary has been studying for several weeks about community helpers, people who do good things that help the rest of us.
Several community helpers spent time with students Friday, talking about what they do at work every day.
"It lets them know why school is important," said Marsha Smith of West End. "The helpers tell them that they started off young and, if they listen, that they can one day be a dentist or doctor or policeman."
Students learned about making candy and also the proper way to brush their teeth.
