The tanker driver whose truck was struck by a train Sunday in Rankin County has died.
Officials confirmed Michael Daniels, a contractor for Airgas in Star, was pronounced dead Tuesday after several days in critical condition at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Daniels was driving his 18-wheeler, which had just been filled with carbon dioxide, across the tracks in Star when his truck collided with a Canadian National Railway locomotive. The truck then exploded.
Two crew members aboard the train were injured, but their conditions were not believed to be life-threatening. Their names have not been released.
The circumstances of the collision are under investigation.
