Wicker Opposes Obama Health Care Plan

U. S. Sen. Roger Wicker says health care reform is the most important issue facing Congress currently.

But he says he is not in favor of taking one-sixth of the nation's economy and putting the government in charge of it.

President Obama would like to create a 'public option' for health insurance, or a government-run insurance company for those who might not be able to have health insurance any other way.

Wicker says it will, among other thing, be too expensive.

"We have seen that the proposals coming out the committees will be very expensive, adding trillions of dollars to this years deficit, adding trillions of dollars to the debt long-term," said Wicker.

Wicker said he's afraid that a government option on health care would run private insurance companies out of business.
