A man whose daughter died in a high-speed police chase said Mississippi should make it a felony for people to flee officers.
Larry McCoy said stiff penalties might make people think twice before driving away from flashing blue lights. He was one of several people who spoke Tuesday during a hearing at the state Capitol.
A commission appointed by the legislature is traveling the state to gather opinions about whether Mississippi should set uniform standards for police pursuits.
Jackson Police Chief Robert Moore said the commission could make recommendations in late January or early February.
The group held hearings last week in Greenville and Oxford, and its final meeting will be Thursday in Biloxi.
