A body found inside a burned house in Meridian was identified as Lamar Edwards, 57. However, Meridian Fire Chief Tim Miller said Edwards did not live at the house and the residents were not at home when the fire was reported Sunday at 2:37 a.m.
Miller said the cause of the fire at 411 39th Avenue is not yet known nor has the cause of Edwards' death been verified.
"At this point, it's just so early, we're unsure about that. We've got investigators from the fire department and police department, the arson task force, are all working on it," said Miller.
Miller said the past five days have produced above average activity for his department.
"We've had some that were accidental. We had the one with the heater, which is obviously an accident," Miller said. "Overloaded electrical cords this time of year. We had one this weekend that was responsible for that. Had too many things plugged in."
Because the investigations have not been completed, Miller said it's not known if there was any foul play involved with the fire death.
