Lauderdale county taxpayers may now pay their tax bills on the Internet. It would mean taxpayers could avoid long lines that generally form around the first of the month at the Lauderdale county tax collector's office.
Tax collector Stanley Shannon said the online site is ready, for payment of car tags or property taxes.
"It won't cut the lines down any appreciable amount, but it will give the people an opportunity for the convenience of paying from their computer," Shannon said. "I don't think a large number of people will take advantage of that, but it will give them the opportunity if they so desire."
In order to avoid penalties, property taxes must be paid before a Feb. 1 deadline.
