Approximately 125 members of the army national guard's company g, 185th aviation group, based in meridian, will deploy for duty Tuesday morning.
The unit will first go to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and later be deployed overseas. It could be mobilized for up to 24 months.
This is the first time the entire unit has been mobilized for the war on terror. Seven members were previously mobilized in March 2003 and have since returned home.
The mission of company g is to move troops and cargo, conduct heavy lifting for combat equipment, and damaged air recovery. The pilots fly the CH-47 "Chinook" helicopter, the primary heavy lift aircraft for the U.S. army.
